BARCELONA—The Samsung Galaxy S8 will be announced in an event at 11 a.m. on March 29th in New York City, with an online live stream as well, the company said during its event at Mobile World Congress today.

A corresponding invite doesn't give much else away, except that it shows a long, narrow phone that may be at least the 2:1 aspect ratio that was just introduced in the LG G6. Samsung hints that there's been a change to the aspect ratio in the text of the invitation: "The forthcoming addition to the Galaxy lineup represents the start of a new era, by reshaping the device that has over the years become an indispensable tool in our everyday lives."
We've been tracking the Galaxy S8 rumors for a while now, and they predict 5.8- and 6.2-inch phones with an "edge" shape, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processors, and some of these specs:
  • Rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, to the left of the camera lens
  • No physical home button
  • Lots of sensors across the top
  • A "Dex" dock that turns the phone into an Android-powered desktop computer
  • A "force touch" screen able to differentiate between keypress strengths
  • A rear 12-megapixel camera and a front 8-megapixel camera
  • 5.8- and 6.2-inch screens with a tall, narrow 18.5:9 aspect ratio
  • 3,000 and 3,500mAh batteries
  • 4GB of RAM
